For our members

As a member you'll enjoy our membership benefits. You can join our association if you are have visual impairment and your degree of disability is more than 50 percent.

In this section

Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired includes 14 regional associations whose members are visually impaired. In addition, we also have nine national member associations, some of which also accept people who see it as full members. You are warmly welcome to join us!

You are entitled to many of our services even if you are not a member of our associations. Such services include, for example, rehabilitation, information and rights monitoring services. However, as a member, you are also entitled to membership benefits, which you can find out about below.


Regional associations

You can become a member of a regional association if you are blind or visually impaired and you live in the association's area of ​​operation. Regional associations produce services for the visually impaired, such as audio magazines, and organize a wide range of activities for their members. Magazine

As a member of the regional association you'll receive our Airut magazine- External link free of charge.

Daisy audio magazines

Most regional associations and many local associations produce and publish audio magazines. A single Daisy record can have one or more local newspapers or excerpts from them. In addition, they may contain material produced by the association.

Activities

The regional associations organize various events and act as advocates of the rights of the visually impaired in their area of ​​responsibility. They offer their members peer support as well as diverse hobby opportunities for those interested in organizational activities and volunteering.

National associations

You can join a national association based on your profession, hobby or other interest. You can be a member of more than one member association at the same time.

Benefits for members

The membership benefits of national associations vary depending on the association. More detailed information can be found on the member associations' own websites.

Membership terms

Some national member associations accept also persons without visual impairment as members.

However, only blind and partially sighted people whose visual impairment causes significant impairment in their daily activities are accepted as members of national associations.

Membership is applied for from the association in writing, and a reliable statement of visual impairment has to be included. Membership application forms are available from associations.


Airut magazine

As a member of the regional association, you'll receive Airut magazine free of charge. Airut s published nine times a year in six different formats: as a print magazine, in Braille, as a Daisy audio magazine, as an electronic Luetus publication, as a pdf-view magazine and as an online magazine.


Peer support

Our regional associations have activities and peer groups where you can talk about everyday life with a visual impairment - or anything else.


Visual impairment card

Members of our regional associations receive a visual impairment card if the degree of visual impairment is at least 50%. The card offers discounts on travel and admission tickets.


Member register

The Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired and some of its member associations have a centralized customer and member register. Members' information is stored in the register.
